Description:
Appointed in association with Robert Johnson Architect and Associates.

The architectural design looked at the built form as a double volume 'spine' acting as an orientation device that guided people through the building.

Industrial building technology, assessed to be the most economical method for the external envelope, was used to form large span mono-pitch roofs. The roofs meet at a centre monitor where a pair of curved columns supports all of the members at mid point. The roof monitor, while providing natural light and ventilation to the circulation spine and to the rooms facing and backing onto it, was thought of as a shaded avenue, with places for rest and recreation, filled with fresh air and sunshine.

The building is planned on two levels using the fall of the site to maximum effect. Facilities include: Midwives Obstetrics Unit, Pharmacy / Dispensary, Emergency Referral unit, Physiotherapy Department, Dentistry Referral unit, extensive reception / waiting areas, change rooms, auditorium and meeting rooms.
